Located on the southern boundary of the watershed, Currant Creek pass provides great views of South Park. In mountain parlance, a park is a great open valley, surrounded by high peaks. South Park is one of five parks in Colorado, and is considered by biologists to be one of the most unique ecosystems in the world. It is home to a superb bristle-cone pine forest, globally rare extreme rich fensor wetlands that are fed from groundwater, and the largest breeding population of mountain ploversan upland bird. The mountain plover is under consideration for listing as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.
