The Upper South Platte Watershed is a critical component of water supply for the Denver Metro area. Over three quarters of Colorados residents count on the watershed for at least a portion of their drinking water, which either begins as rain or snow in the watershed, or brought into the watershed as trans-mountain diversions. Trans-mountain diversions bring water from the Arkansas or Colorado river basins through pipelines that run through the mountains, and then discharge the water into the South Platte River. Roberts Tunnel is one such diversion structure, that brings water from Dillon Reservoir in Summit County, and discharges it into the North Fork of the South Platte near Bailey..
